Milestones:

  • $15 million from John and Cheryl Aldred of Calgary. SAIT will name the Centre Wing of the Trades and Technology Complex the Aldred Centre in honour of this history-making contribution.
  • $10 million from Keith MacPhail, PT '81, Chairman and CEO of Bonavista Energy Trust.  SAIT named the MacPhail School of Energy in his honour. 
  • $5 million from Enerplus Resources Fund to name the Enerplus Innovation Centre.
  • $10 million from the Founding Builders Leadership Circle, an elite group of industry leaders from the residential construction sector.

Architect:

Calgary based Gibbs Gage Architects is recognized as an industry leader for its innovative and award-winning design. Since its inception in 1983, it has become one of the largest architectural firms in Western Canada. Some of its best known projects are the Round-Up Centre at Stampede Park, the Banff Centre and Eighth Avenue Place twin high-rise office complex in downtown Calgary, formerly know as the Penny Lane Towers.

INDUSTRY RELIES ON SAIT FOR SKILLED EMPLOYEES:

  • Industry hires SAIT grads - Nine out of ten graduates are employed. 75% of the 2009 grads who were employed in training-related jobs were located in Calgary, and 16% were located elsewhere in Alberta outside of Calgary (SAIT 2009 Graduate Employment Statistics)
  • Student Enrollment at SAIT has increased by 27% over the last 10 years. (FLEs in credit programs - from 9,125 full-time learner equivalent students in 1997/98 to 11,609 FLE students in 2007/08) (Source of 1997/98 data: LERS Enrollment - Unique Headcount for 1997-1998; data current as at Sept. 27, 2009.   • SAIT is integral to the Alberta economy - SAIT generates $1.6 billion of economic activity and taxpayer investment earns a 19% return through higher tax revenue and lower social costs.   • The number of apprentices enrolled at SAIT has increased by 72% over the last 5 years from 5,022 students in 2002/03 to 8,659 students in 2007/08.   • SAIT trains approximately one third of Alberta's apprentices. (Advanced Education's datacube, LERS Enrollment - Unique Headcount for 2007-2008.) Alberta has about 10% of Canada's labour force. (Provincial apprenticeship data comes from the Canada Council of Directors of Apprenticeship) However, our province trains more than 20% of the country's apprentices.   • In 2010 87% of employers indicated they were somewhat or very satisfied with the quality of SAIT's training. Almost half (48%) were very satisfied with the quality of SAIT's training. (2010 Employer Satisfaction survey)
  • Nearly half of employers surveyed in 2010 (47%) were very satisfied with the quality of SAIT's graduates. 88% were somewhat or very satisfied. (2010 Employer Satisfaction survey)
  • At the school level, Manufacturing and Automation, Energy and Construction all have above average employer satisfaction for both the quality of SAIT training and graduates. (2010 Employer Satisfaction survey)
